How to Lose Weight

So the other day I was watching one of my favorite shows, The Biggest Loser. Jillian was, as usual, kicking the butts of the contestants on the show and making them cry. Whilst torturing one of her victims, she made her repeat a phrase several times. She said, "You have to love yourself more than you love food." What a concept! I know it seems silly, but when you think about it, it is really true. I don't know if it is possible for me to love myself more than I love cheesecake and pork barbacoa enchiladas at Cafe Rio. Seriously. But I'm gonna try. It'll be rough, but I've got to do it!

More Lists

Okay, for some reason this blog has become about making lots of lists. It's odd, I know, but you'll have to deal. One of the things I should have included about why I hate blogs is the fact that having one makes me want to expose all of my secret hopes, fears, dreams, and idiosyncrasies (ooh, I used a big word, and yes I had to google it to figure out how to spell it). I once said of myself that I have a million things I want to do and never do any of them. The lazy procrastinator in me won't let me. Here is a list of things I wrote elsewhere on the web (August 2006, bonus points to anyone who read it there the first time). I may have even accomplished two or three things in nearly 2 1/2 years since I first wrote it. Also, bonus points for me because the time I wasted writing this list 2 1/2 years ago is now paying off because I am recycling material. I'm highlighting in red things I have actually done since I wrote the list.

THE LIST

1. Start hiking. I love exploring. I like going down a road or path just to see what's on it (may have to wait. . .see # 4).
2. Learn to rock climb. It looks like fun (again, see # 4).
3. Learn to play the piano. I sort of know how. I can plunk a tune out by ear. I want to *really* learn the notes and play beyond the basics. (Since Drake started taking lessons I am actually learning the notes! I'd really like to start lessons someday.)
4. Get in shape. Eat healthy foods. (Ha, ha. Good one! This is the year though, I've gotta do it!)
5. Start dancing again. I'm no superstar dancer, but what I can do I enjoy. I want to take some classes, but not before I've started working on # 4. (Not sure what my limitations are since my back surgery. Number 4 is definitely a priority though. Yes, I know dancing is exercise and this would help me lose weight, but I'm not getting in any dancing gear with this gut I'm sporting, ya hear?)
6. Start reading again.
7. Get my Bachelor's degree. In what, I don't know. I love being in the classroom and feeding my brain.
8. Wear a bikini on the beach. Better yet, wear any swimsuit on the beach (see # 4). Or even better yet, go to the beach.
9. Be a better mom to my kids.
10. Be a better wife to my husband.
11. Learn to be a better cook.
12. Learn to sew.
13. Become more organized.
14. Become more motivated.
15. Learn to knit better.
16. Take the kids to Disneyland, Sea World, Knotts Berry Farm, and Magic Mountain.
17. Start keeping a journal so that my kids will know who I was when I'm gone. (Does the blog sort of count?)
18. Join a genealogy group.
19. Go to Wisconsin, Cleveland, and Detroit to dig up more information about my family and heritage.
20. See a show on the Las Vegas Strip. Yes, I lived there for a year and a half and never saw a show. Celine Dion would be awesome. (Okay, Celine is gone. I live here again so this was an easy one to cross off the list. I want to see The Blue Man Group next).
21. See a concert. The only concert I ever went to was Janet Jackson in Salt Lake City (1994). She sang one song, went backstage, then sent someone out to say that she couldn't perform and the show would be rescheduled. I sold my ticket to someone else when she came for the rescheduled show. Wait. . . I did see an N'Sync "concert" during the Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. I don't think that counts though.
22. Go back to the Oregon coast with my family. It is beautiful there.
23. Go horseback riding.
24. Become certified in CPR.
25. Take a self-defense class.
26. Hike to Mount Timpanogos Cave again. http://www.nps.gov/tica/
27. Attend cultural events.
28. See Phantom of the Opera again.
29. Go ice skating.

*****
I'm too lazy to add to the list right now, but I do have tons more I want to do (and will probably never get to). Stay tuned!
